The truth on sports (or at least he thinks so)

Dear John & A Tale of 2 QB's

madden_favre.jpgAny NFL fan can attest to the 'Bromance' that former football commentator John Madden once relentlessly pursued with Brett Favre.  During the 1990's and until he, err, John retired, the man-crush on #4 was thicker than John's makeup would later become following sales of HD-Televisions to the public sector.  According to Madden, Brett Favre played the game with a passion like non-other and represented everything that a football player should be.

So, John, which attribute of Favre do you admire most?

Is it his indecisiveness or inability to be forthright?  Or, is it being driven more by getting revenge on others than bringing good to those around him? Maybe the way he avoids bonding with teammates or refusing to embrace practice and team preparation?  Could it be the way he exaggerates injury or downplays his own physical potential until training camp is almost over and his personal compensation exceeds his value?

Brad Childress auditions for his next job in Minnesota as team driver

I recall, not that long ago, another future first-ballot Hall of Fame QB being pushed away for a (Steve) young arm.  He was traded to Kansas City in 1993 after the 49ers organization made him feel less wanted in San Francisco than a heterosexual man in The Castro.

Following the 1992 NFL season, after it became apparent that his heir apparent (Steve Young) was the new starting QB for the 49ers, did Joe Montana obsess with playing for a division rival?  Did his professional purpose become getting revenge against his former coach (George Seifert) and general manager (Eddie DeBartolo)?  Did he flirt with the Kansas City Chiefs throughout the offseason and most of training camp only to join the club when the majority of preseason practice was over?

Both Joe Montana and Brett Favre should be mentioned in any argument over which player was the greatest quarterback in NFL history.  But there should be no debate over which man handled himself with more dignity in the final chapters of their storybook careers.

First off Zakk, that picture of Madden and Favre is hilarious..LOL

I agree. I like Bret Favre and no doubt he is a good quarterback but these last 2 years of shenanigans have gotten old. I agree, poor taste. Brett should of either played one last year with Green Bay or retired. He should of never gone on and played with New York.
I dont blame Green Bay fans for being all in an uproar over this. I think most NFL fans are tired of all this drama.
It will be interesting when the Vikings play the Packers this year on Monday night to hear all the "boos".
