Hooray for Hollywood
When I'm feeling low (yes, even travel editors get the blues) there are two places in South Florida that can instantly cheer me up: the MacArthur Causeway, especially on a weekend when the ships are in port, and the Hollywood Broadwalk.
The Broadwalk is like a safe house away from all the posturing and pretension of South Florida. The faces you see are not sophisticated but they're real. They often have a toughness that speaks of hard lives, hard winters. And this makes the smiles all the more precious.
So if you're in need of a lift, take a stroll on the Broadwalk this Saturday. And when you're done, head over to Young Circle, where something called "an eco-diversity event" will be taking place. I'm not sure what that is, but I do know that it will include music and dance from Latin America, West Africa, Turkey and India. So you can feel uplifted AND transported.

I thought you must be making a sarcastic remark, couldn't be serious, especially here in South Florida, where we have more Foreigners than we do Americans who were born here and their Grandparents and Great Grandparents were born and raised here. That is what is wrong with our Country now, the Americans are dying off and to replace them is all of these Foreigners who speak Spanish predominantly. Not the Official English Language i was raised on. I learned Spanish in High School but everyone i lived among spoke English, even those from Cuba.
I enjoy being around others from all over the world, learning their cultures as long as they are willing to blend into our Country and not change our Country to what they left. Show respect to our Country and it's American Citizens.
No we just had 40 land on a boat at Hollywood Beach, they come across the water every day or at least several times a month. Do we have crowding in South Florida? Do we have a water Shortage? Do we have overcrowded roads? With many having no Insurance, no Drivers Licenses? Are the School age Children learning and showing good grades? Or are they dropping out with Gangs permeating our Neighborhoods? Do we need more Foreigners? Hell no!! And anyone who is looking to bring more over here needs to be strung up before all the American Citizens still living in the U.S.A. You need to find a better use of your time, like why we pay so much for gasoline and groceries and dining and etc. etc. etc.

I was referring to tourists, who by definition come and go. But since you mention immigrants, I've always felt that this country is big enough to handle them, and that the fact that people still risk their lives to come here is evidence that we're doing something right. Imagine the day when we say, "Remember when people wanted to come here?" (Impossible? Some of us thought we'd never see a weak dollar in our lifetimes.)
